Wind Turbines Withstand Extreme Conditions

April 2008

futur energy

The FuturEnergy wind turbine's reputation as the most powerful and most reliable in its class offering 'More Power per Pound' than any of its competitors ,and able to withstand the most extreme climatic conditions, is reaffirmed at the Home Renovation & Building Show with the release of photographs that show the turbine successfully operating on an Arctic Exploration Vessel and on a North Sea Naval Fort.

The show also witnesses FuturEnergy's launch of a range of advanced solar panels and accessories, available on their own or as part of hybrid solar and wind power systems including a high-tech solar tracker.

Installed on the French icebreaker Aurora Magnetica, the FuturEnergy one-kilowatt wind turbine is helping the crew and scientists aboard the icebound exploration vessel survive the bleakest of Arctic winters, with its ferocious freezing winds and temperatures as low as -34°C (minus 34 degrees centigrade).

"I can't praise the FuturEnergy wind turbine enough, particularly as we now rely upon it for survival and not just everyday power," says explorer Pierre Sauvadet, leader of the expedition. "It's just great, the quality of the design and build is fantastic, its small but extremely powerful, silent and vibration-free, and boasts an almost perfect blade design."

"Not all companies are equal, some are better, cleverer than others and from my experience, FuturEnergy is undoubtedly one of the cleverest."

Subject to almost continuous winds including gusts in excess of Storm Force 12 - over 32 metres/second - two FuturEnergy wind turbines are providing the sole form of electrical power for the world's smallest nation - the independent Principality of Sealand situated on a remote Second World War North Sea naval fort. A move that has completely eliminated Sealand's previous dependance on costly and polluting diesel-generators.

Costing just 695 each, the two turbines operate at well above their one-kilowatt rated capacity and generate sufficient electricity to cover the isolated community's daily requirements including powering lights and all its essential business equipment and domestic appliances.

"As the one thing we are not short of is wind, it made sense to harness this as a possible source of inexpensive and wholly clean power," says Tina Harrington of Church & East, the company responsible for the renovation of Sealand. Our problem was finding a supplier who would be willing to participate in such a testing project .

However, from the outset FuturEnergy was wholly committed to the production of the perfect wind turbine for our situation and the results have been staggering with the benefits, over just 12-months, far out-weighing the costs."

FuturEnergy's new Solar Power offering includes a carefully chosen selection of BP solar cells and ancillary equipment and accessories, suitable for use on their own or as a hybrid combined with the FuturEnergy wind turbine for optimum all-year renewable power generation.

Based around the high-efficiency BP380 80-watt photovoltaic panel, the solar packages are individually designed to meet the exact needs and budget of each project and are suitable for specialist and self-installation on both on and off-grid, battery-charging and grid-tie applications.

Adding a new dimension in solar energy capture is a high-tech Solar Tracking System which ensures that its PV panels automatically follow the course of the sun, generating over 25% more power than conventional fixed arrays.
